Comic making is a lovely way for me to feel like I'm Doing Something Productive that isn't my banal vitamin-box-design job.
It all started with Strange Thoughts when I was 9, ripping on my hero Gary Larson's one-panel weirdness. It was cute enough to turn into a holiday family calendar, but I couldn't ever see myself in the funny pages. I became obsessed with reading, so I decided I'd be a writer. I Got Serious and focussed on writing and a mishmash of fine arts.
How could I expect that my child ambitions would ring true? My college thesis would end up being the first chapter of a (still unfinished) graphic novel, with piles of essays about the storytelling quality of simplified line. We can't escape our roots. I'll never be a Bill Watterson, but people humor me, and I'm having a lot of fun. I guess I'll be a Jade Harmon.
Though I'd prefer to be telling odd little surrealistic stories or making daily comic journals, I've been lucky to have a funny-page spot in Brattleboro's monthly Commons newspaper. http://www.commonsnews.org/ They've generously let me do anything I want, and the monthly deadline is just demanding enough.
I live in the hamlet of Westminster West; Northminster North attempts to tell little stories that my fellow rural Vermonters will smile at. I hope you enjoy.
